An experience for Maggie

Anyone who knows my friend Susanna and I, know how much we like to skinny dip. Since we've been friends we have never passed up an opportunity to strip down and jump in. I don't know how many times we ran through her house just in our towels, out the door, though the wet grass, down the bark trail, through the tall grass lined trail and into the river. We would float on our backs gazing at the stars.

Today, Maggie and I went to visit Susanna and Jonas at their new house. Susanna was giving me the different options of things we could do today when she mentioned that they had a hot tub! Yes! "Wait, I don't have a suit." I said. Has this ever stopped us in the past? Heck no! Plus, Maggie and Jonas need to learn the art of skinny dipping (while they don't care about boy and girl parts).

"My boobs are really sad looking," I told Susanna. "I still have a baby tummy," she replied. Alright, we were on common ground.

It's not like you can climb into a hot tub gracefully normally, but especially not naked and holding onto a toddler, in broad daylight. What a sight that was! Jonas entertained us all with his bubble making abilities and Maggie just wanted to watch the dog.

It's surreal to think about how Susanna and I, just sixteen, would talk on the river's edge about how we would teach our kids someday to skinny dip and today we did just that.

Most of you are rolling your eyes at this post, thinking I'm weird for thinking that skinny dipping is such a sacred act, it's not really, it's just fun and free. You may want to pass down your mother's secret cookie recipe, or how to teach your kids how to sew, I want to pass on the art of skinny dipping to my daughter.

(I'll spare you the photographs)

  2. Legacies come in many shapes - even post-partum ones. What a wonderful thing to pass on to your children. Do you remember skinny-dipping at the lake.......and that my skinny-dipping time was at night after you were all tucked into your sleeping bags?
